The Ametller Family moved from Tarragona to the Alt Penedès region two centuries ago in 1824, acquired a small farm that eventually became the present Heredad Ametller (country estate) and began to establish their legacy of exceptional winegrowing and dedication to the local terroir. The family estate is currently nearly 500 acres. From the earliest days they aligned themselves with the innovative wine cellars of the surrounding areas, which at that time were foremost among the European winegrowing industry. 25 years ago, Joan Ametller, firstborn of the 7th Ametller generation, decided to step up and began a completely new personal project, bottling his own DO Penedès wines and cava in the town of Font Rubi. In 1998, looking for better places to produce the best possible wines, Joan bought some vineyards in Priorat and Montsant, a challenging wild area at the foot of Serra de Montsant, ‘sacred mountain’ of the Priorat (elev. 780m). Nowadays, with ~65 acres, this property called Mustardó is one of the largest, single estates in Priorat, and due to climate changing and its high altitude, it has become one of the most interesting single plots of all Priorat. Complimented with another 15 acres of 70+ year-old vineyards located close to Torroja, the J. Ametller Priorat project enjoys 100% vineyard control and integrated estate production towards “zero residue” level.

Three years ago, Joan Ametller and Gaizka Lejarza formed AWW to focus on development of international market, taking the Ametller reputation for wine brands all over the world. In this short time, we have achieved high praise in Challenges such as Decanter, CWWSC, Grenaches du Monde, Parker, Peñín, always between 88 to 95 points…
